It is mandatory by law for all two-wheeler owners in India to have at least a basic form of insurance coverage, known as third-party liability insurance.
Here are the key components of two-wheeler insurance in India:
Third-party Liability Coverage: This is the minimum requirement mandated by law. It covers the insured individual against any legal liabilities arising out of injury or death of a third party or damages to their property caused by the insured two-wheeler.
Comprehensive Coverage: This type of insurance provides coverage not only for third-party liabilities but also for damages to the insured two-wheeler due to accidents, theft, natural disasters, fire, vandalism, etc.
Personal Accident Cover: It provides coverage for bodily injuries or death sustained by the owner/driver of the insured two-wheeler in an accident.
Optional Add-ons: Insurers offer various optional add-ons or riders that policyholders can choose to enhance the coverage of their two-wheeler insurance policy. Some common add-ons include zero depreciation cover, roadside assistance, engine protection cover, accessories cover, etc.
Two-wheeler insurance policies in India are typically issued for a period of one year, after which they need to be renewed annually.
